THE trial of a soldier accused of killing a woman he was driving with is expected to begin in the Chatsworth Regional Court next month.
This emerged when Mr Mboniseni Zilozi appeared in court on Wednesday on charges of murdering Ms Zandile Mnomiya, his case was postponed to 18 August. ILANGA has reported on this matter several times following the incident that occurred in March last year in Umlazi.
It was reported that the deceased had been leaving his home in the P ward, heading towards his home in Z in Umlazi. It is reported that on the way, he had a bad car accident with the suspect, and an argument broke out between them. It was revealed that the argument led to Zlozi pulling out a gun, shooting Ms Mnomiya, who died at the scene, before collapsing.
When Zlozi fled the scene, one of the victims was still wearing a mask. Zilozi was later arrested and when he appeared in court to apply for bail, the investigating officer revealed that they went to his house after the suspect was arrested, where they found another pair of shoes that were exactly the same as the one left at the scene.
Zilozi was denied bail last year and this year he tried to apply for bail a second time, claiming he had new evidence, and was also denied bail. The case has been in court and has been postponed several times.
On Wednesday, the case was postponed to the 18th to 21st of next year, when the trial is expected to begin.
