THE Department of Sports, Arts and Culture is clarifying the amount of money it allegedly used to transport people to attend this year’s FIFA World Cup in three countries, namely Mexico, Canada and the United States.
This follows a complaint by political parties in Parliament about the use of almost 31 million to attend the games. The department says the money was spent properly as it paid for all travel expenses.
It says that among the items it paid for were airfare, tickets to watch games, and accommodations, where the Minister of the department, Mr Gayton McKenzie, his two assistants, the director-general of the department and 14 employees stayed.
The department says that although it has not yet completed the calculation of the amount spent by each person, it is confident that all the money was spent properly.
“We wish to clarify that not everyone was paid for by the government on this trip. Some of this money came from donors we work with,” the department said.
