FREE State police have arrested a man who failed to appear in court after being released on bail for the rape of his former lover.
The suspect, Tshidiso Mchael Mokhuane (45), was reportedly arrested and had been on the run for a while after failing to appear in court. It is reported that in the incident that took place on 1 November 2020, the 50-year-old victim was sleeping with her boyfriend in Bloemspruit when they heard the sound of breaking glass.
They were reportedly awakened to find Mokhuane shouting outside, threatening to force his way into the house. Out of fear, the victim’s boyfriend reportedly locked himself in the bedroom and locked it. Mokhuane then allegedly forced the victim to leave with him, and took her to his shack.
According to a police statement, he allegedly raped the victim and held her captive overnight until dawn. The victim allegedly escaped and returned to her new boyfriend’s house, after which a case was opened at the Bloemspruit police station. Makhuane was reportedly arrested, appeared in court on a rape charge and was later released on bail.
After being released on bail, Makhuane did not return to court. The court reportedly issued a warrant for his arrest. According to police, they followed up after receiving a tip-off about the suspect’s whereabouts.
Provincial Task Team officers allegedly raided a shantytown near Suncity in Bloemspruit and searched for him. He is expected to appear in the Bloemspruit Magistrate’s Court.emspruit baduze.
