March & March (also called March and March) is a South African grassroots anti-illegal immigration movement. It organizes protests, marches, and rallies calling for stricter border control, deportation of undocumented foreign nationals, and government action against illegal immigration.
- Goals: The group demands that undocumented immigrants leave South Africa and re-enter only through legal channels. They highlight issues like crime, job competition, and strain on services linked to illegal immigration. They have issued deadlines (e.g., end of June 2026) for government action and called for things like a national shutdown.
- Leadership: Prominently associated with figures like Jacinta Ngobese (or Jacinta MaNgobese / Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma) and local coordinators like Theo Khosa or Charlie in Cape Town.
- Activities: Peaceful marches and demonstrations in cities like Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town (e.g., Sea Point, Bellville), Pietermaritzburg, Eastern Cape, and to Parliament. They have marched in areas like the Point precinct in Durban and East Rand.
“Escort” Context
Police or authorities have provided escorts during some events, such as transporting verified foreign nationals (under police escort from shelters like Diakonia Centre to Home Affairs for verification) amid tensions from the protests. Protesters themselves have been monitored by police during marches to maintain order.
The movement has faced challenges, including legal issues (e.g., public violence charges) and criticism, but it continues mobilizing citizens, often alongside groups like Operation Dudula.
Recent activity includes marches in May–June 2026, with more planned or tensions building toward late June.
