The NATIONAL Freedom Party has decided to take the matter of its KwaZulu-Natal chairperson, Ms Mbali Shinga, to court after the speaker of the provincial legislature refused to remove her from office, following her expulsion from the party.
NFP secretary, Mr Bheki Xaba said at a meeting held yesterday as a group they reached a decision to take her to court.
“We will take the matter to the High Court in Pietermaritzburg. In this case, we are suing the speaker (Ms Nontembeko Boyce) who refused to remove Shinga from office despite us writing to her as a group that she was expelled from it. This decision was reached by considering the legal aspect and did not deviate from the party constitution which is in line with the law of the land. If the court upholds the Speaker’s action, it will mean that all political parties in KwaZulu-Natal are not safe under his rule,” he said.
Speaker Boyce told iLanga that she would not have made the decision to remove Shinga without a court order as she was still waiting for a court order to reinstate the leader. Shinga’s problems began after she refused a party order to vote no confidence in Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli’s leadership as Premier of KwaZulu-Natal.
Xaba said Shinga was no longer associated with the party as it had been a while since she last had meetings with its leadership and made it clear that she had removed herself from it.
