Paws, Purpose, and Page-Turners: How Jackie De Gaye Cares for Durban’s Feral Cats
For over two decades, Glenwood resident Jackie De Gaye has been a devoted guardian for Durban’s stray and feral cat population. Starting her rounds as early as 5:00 AM every day, Jackie visits multiple feeding stations across Umbilo, Glenwood, Maydon Wharf, and Cavendish Park to ensure hundreds of cats receive daily food, clean water, and medical care.
Her mission goes beyond simple feeding; sterilization is central to breaking the cycle of starvation and overpopulation among local colonies. To keep this non-stop effort funded, Jackie hosts a weekly book sale every Saturday morning at Glenwood Village Shopping Centre.
