Last night, the Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS) Special Project Team conducted a shop inspection at Duakonia Avenue, Durban CBD.

During the operation:

● The shop manager was charged for conducting a business without a valid Business Licence.

● A shop assistant who initially failed to produce the required documentation was taken to the Border Management Authority (BMA) for status verification.

● The male was subsequently identified as an Ethiopian national and was found to be in the country without valid immigration documentation.

● He was taken to South African Police Service Durban Central Station for further processing for working without a valid work permit.

The operation forms part of DMPS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen municipal by-law enforcement, business compliance and coordinated law-enforcement operations within the city.

No business is above the law, compliance remains essential to maintaining a safe and orderly Durban.
