The KwaZulu-Natal Co-operative and Indigenous Governance Department (COGTA), working with the Provincial Disaster Management Center team, revealed that there are currently no deaths or injuries after the heavy rains that hit Durban and Pietermaritzburg yesterday.
Heavy rains accompanied by wind, thunder and hail, damaged power lines, flooded highways and trees fell on the road in many parts of the state.
The COGTA Department stated that it has started cleaning up the affected areas.
“Technical assessments are ongoing in both regions to determine the extent of the total damage. We are working closely with the municipalities involved to restore services and remove waste,” said the statement.
The department stated that a comprehensive review will be provided once the technical evaluation is completed.
