- When and where: The trucks were loaded in the early hours of Saturday, 3 October 2026, at Durban Harbour. They were destined for a factory in Pietermaritzburg but never arrived.
- Cargo and vehicles: Approximately 108 tons of wheat/grain in total (roughly 36 tons per truck). The vehicles were an Iveco, a MAN, and a Daewoo.
- Drivers: All three drivers had been recently contracted for deliveries. Two were on their first load for the company. After the trucks failed to arrive, the drivers became evasive: they gave incorrect location information and then stopped responding to messages or phone calls.
- Investigation: Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) is involved. Spokesperson Prem Balram stated that investigators have identified three suspects — one foreign national and two South African nationals. RUSA holds video footage, photographs, identification details, and vehicle registration information related to the suspects, but this material is being withheld pending authorisation for public release.
- Status: The whereabouts of the wheat remain unknown. RUSA and police have appealed for public information that could help recover the cargo or identify those responsible. The matter is under investigation.
