In the 1980s, Durban’s train services included daily passenger services like the Trans Natal and DLS from the South African Transport Service
some weekend steam excursions such as the one to Sarnia, and the popular but later curtailed Banana Express to Port Shepstone. The 1980s also saw a major reorganisation of the national railway system into the business-oriented, government-owned corporation Transnet.
