Three security guards from KwaNdengezi who were seen harassing an Uber driver who was carrying women in recent weeks have been denied bail in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.

The security guards were seen in a video that went viral on social media calling out to the Uber driver, brandishing guns and harassing female passengers in the vehicle.

What emerged during the bail application was that the driver and the women were threatened.

“The female passengers and the Uber driver were threatened after the incident. It also emerged that the manager of the security company On Call Security also threatened the Uber driver, ordering him to drop the case,” the statement said.

KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said they supported the decision to charge the security guards and the company manager.
