The eThekwini Municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate continues to intensify its crackdown on electricity infrastructure theft and vandalism, reaffirming its zero-tolerance approach through the successful conviction of three individuals involved in the theft of municipal electricity cables in Umkhomazi valued at approximately R1 million. This ground-breaking conviction was secured through close collaboration between the Directorate’s Infrastructure Theft Division and the South African Police Service (SAPS). The Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court sentenced all three accused to direct imprisonment, with one of them receiving the maximum sentence of 15 years behind bars. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving electricity infrastructure to help combat infrastructure crime.
