Here is a breakdown of the expected fuel price adjustments for August 2026 based on the latest Central Energy Fund (CEF) data:

Expected August 2026 Fuel Price Changes

  • Petrol (93 Octane): Decrease of 19 cents per litre
  • Petrol (95 Octane): Decrease of 14 cents per litre
  • Diesel (0.05% sulphur): Increase of R1.60 per litre
  • Diesel (0.005% sulphur): Increase of R1.42 per litre
  • Illuminating Paraffin: Increase of R1.27 per litre

What’s Driving the Changes?

While petrol users may see a minor drop, the massive initial over-recovery (which started around R2.50 per litre earlier in the month) rapidly evaporated due to rising international oil prices and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting energy shipping routes.

For diesel vehicles, agriculture, and logistics operators, the picture is considerably tougher, with substantial price increases coming into effect.
